seriously, i dont like the ps3, ive played it and i dont think it is good at all. i bet he already has an xbox 360, but if he doesnt, u should get him that. he may want a ps3, but after he plays it, he may find it very disappointing. also, does he have a hi-def tv? if he wants to play his ps3 games in high def, he, or you, are going to have to go out and spend an extra $70-$100 on high def HDMI cables so that he can play in high def because the ps3 only comes with standard cables. also, you have to still press that stupid button in the back to turn it on, unlike the 360 where it can be turned on with the controller. also, the controller doesnt use batteries. it has to be charged using a mini usb cable that comes with it, so he better not lose it. if he really really really really really wants one, then go ahead and buy one for him. he may like it, if he has never played a 360 before. but, i dont want him to get mad at you for listening to some dude on the internet who said not to get him one. lol. good luck.

Not if you ever want him to spend time with you again lol.
Just kidding, my Mom has the PS2 and I have the 360 sorry don't have the PS3.
BUT in view of other readers, I like the 360 games but the console is loud and it locks up, sometimes for no reason at all. I have put a brand new game in right out of the package and after a few mins a page will pop up saying my disc is dirty or damaged. I just eject it, move it around and put it back in. Not all of the games from my old Xbox will work on the 360 either.
However I still like the games and the fact you can play a regular movie DVD on it, play online, and I love the wirelss remote.
My advice is if you can afford it get him what he wants, if you can't afford it and you know he will be getting the PS3 later, buy him a game or two for it that he wants for when he does get it.

Your heart is in the right place, however, a PS3 is a rather expensive gift. Time spent on the PS3 will take away time with you. The more realistic answer would be to buy him a game for the console of his choice and take him out for a steak dinner. Cannot go wrong with that. Three years is a long time to be together. Especially, as a teenager. I would hold off on that thought...because you would never get your money back if things went sour.

You've already suggested to him that you will put $100 towards it to him, and if he has been talking about it for a long time, I'm sorry fanboys but he's not going to be happy with a Wii or Xbox. Buying as a gift something which you've already indicated partial support for is not a great surprise, so you'd be spending a lot of money for not much return. I'd recommend considering something else altogether, preferably something that you are both interested in. That way, there's a lower chance that you'll get it wrong, and it'll bring you closer together rather than divide you.

In my personal beleif the system is not worth the money. Yes it plays Blu-ray disks, but there arent any good games yet. I bet he would be much happier with a Nintendo Wii. If he has been playing games for any length of time pre-playstation he probably played alot of old Nintendo and genisis games. Which are availiable on the wii for a small price. If he really wants a PS3 he would be better off waiting untill the price drop which should be happening in the next few months.

The money is worth it if he plans to watch Blu-Ray movies as well as play video games, a HDTV is required to fully enjoy the movies though. Not a lot of great games are out on the system right now. Its a great idea if he REALLY wants one and you get most of your money back in the end, $600 is a lot.

I'm sure he would like a PS3 if he loves playing videos. You're very thoughtful of him, the PS3 rocks! Sorry...

Bad idea unless you're looking to "loan" him the money for a fierra for his 25th bday. Don't get into the habit of "you can pay me back". I'm sorry to say, no matter how good the intentions, it can easily lead to you being taken advantadge of.
