How is music leaked onto the internet?

New songs are played on the radio for awhile before they are available anywhere else. (Retail, iTunes, etc)

Most radio stations stream their broadcast on the internet. There are programs that can record audio that is playing on your computer. People can record the song from the internet stream then edit it so just the song is in the audio file and save it as an MP3. Then it is made available on a P2P program and millions of users across the globe have access to it.
