I am a guy of Indian origin living in America. When I was back in India, I and my friends used to party a lot, get drunk and dance. Thing is I always used to dance with others.

But when I came to the US, I hit the pubs a couple of times with my friends. But unfortunately I have never enjoyed my experience there. The thing is that when we get drunk and get onto the dance floor and start dancing, then nobody is willing to dance with me or my friends. It's like all the Indian guys dance together & the Westerners dance with other Westerners... the first time, I went with Indians, and I didn't mind it. The second time I hung out with Americans - on that occasion none of them paid attention to my moves. Why is this so? What is so special about Americans or Westerners dancing, if they cannot appreciate foreigners' styles???

One thing I can tell you - it is just very different here in the US. I didn't feel so much alienated as bored and lonely. Dancing in the clubs is completely different than where I used to live too, and also all the stuff that goes with it. So yeah. And what makes you think people would want to appreciate your dancing and look at your moves? Are you any good? But anyway.... Just keep looking and find the clubs that suit you. The good news is - the variety of clubs, styles and their general friendliness is wide. Better yet, find something dance - related that has more structure to it, like salsa dancing or maybe swing. Oh, yeah, a good and fun transition may be theme nights as they are run by some clubs. I've been to clubs when they had Mediteranian nights and I found them quite enjoyable. Different, and a lot of fun.

"on that occasion none of them paid attention to my moves. "

I think that is just a weird way of expressing what you're saying. Are you saying that you're such an awesome dancer or something? Maybe its racism (lets not deny it), maybe it's just the westerners not up to dancing like you, maybe they just wanna dance some other way so dancing with you is just incompatible, or maybe they just didn't think you're anything so special.

Don't think so much about it.
