I am a director of children's theater. I am looking for ideas for a show for this coming year. Anyone have any play idea's that the children can be in? Or does anyone know where to get scripts? I am not looking for musicals, and definately no more than 3 set changes. I would prefer only one simple set, but I am open for suggestons. Thanks!

I can let you stage "Time Upon A Once" if you make a couple promises. It is single set. Runs about an hour...depending on cast. Here's the header and cast makeup. All parts can be played by Children.

TIME UPON A ONCE

A Play For Children

By Terry D. Barhorst

With added Patter Songs by Vivien Altfeld

Copyright 1985
All production rights reserved.

Staged as a traveling production with a revolving cast. Performed
at six churches and two community theatres in Houston Texas over
a six month period 1986. Directed by Vivien Altfeld. Staged again in
1990 and 1998.

CAST

JAMIE A young boy between eight and eleven, costumed
in casual school clothes. He must convey that he
is at the time of many life decisions.

TOCK A mature man, leaning toward old age, and a Don
Quixote look. His costuming should consist of a
head-piece which has both the look of a helmet, and
the top portion of a grandfather clock. His face
should be made up to look like a clock face. He
wears a rather bedraggled suit with a pendulum
for a tie. He is rather unsure of himself in his
present environment, and also a bit clumsy.

SNORT A woman who appears a bit younger than Tock. Her
costume should be that of a plush pink dragon with
a tail she can sit down on at times during the
show. She should have a short white uniform jacket
with many gaudy medals. She is a no nonsense combat
dragon.

BOOGER A young woman or teenager. Denims and shirt, or
possibly sweat shirt, for costume. She should be
able to change from sweet to villainous at any
moment.

O'GRADY An older woman. She should be costumed very
respectably, with a hint of an Irish lean, and
Green is a must. She is both a Queen, and a
Trickster.

MOM Jamie's mother. Her age should reflect this in
casting. She should be costumed in normal street
clothes.

ONCE A man large enough to carry Jamie either on his
shoulders or piggy back. He may be costumed as
fancies the director, as produced the Once had the
head of a bird, three toed felt hands and feet, and
a sky blue cassock that reaches the floor with the
ruffled and belled collar of a court jester. This
also could be a costume of a carousel horse or
fanciful creature that Jamie puts on like a costume
with suspenders that hold it up.
