Dial up companies are not going to give you speed, period.

AOL ,MSN pretty much the same
Earthlink is AOL.

Netzero and People PC have less support but much better prices.

Netscape connect is pretty good (formerly walmart connect)

AOL doesn't have servers in every city, so you may have to pay long distance charges...if you live in LA, however, you would be in luck - I believe they have a "local" server for you.

However, AOL is a love it or hate it service, and there are few people whom have used the service whom can say they are ambivalent. (I never have, since I have no intention to make a cross-border call, as the nearest one is in Grand Forks(?), and I'm in Winnipeg.)

Make some calls to different providers and ask some questions.

I am with Clearwire here in Idaho and no more dialup. Its is pretty fast. I have had 2 friends who went with AOL, and decided to change providers down the road, and they played heck trying to get rid of AOL. Aol makes it real difficult to get rid of it. In my opinion, I would not go with AOL. Clearwire might be in your area. I use my yahoo address for all email which is free.

I have had highstream.net as my dial-up service for 5 years or so and never had any problems with them. The only technical support call I've ever made to them was for a friend that forgot his "latest" password. Price is $8.95 a month and they're very good at blocking spam and viruses in e-mail. They have access numbers all over the country (great for traveling). Check out their compare page: http://www.highstream.net/content/compare.asp
