Hi Lee. Well another "concrete" way of getting a message across is what the terrorists did on 911. Violence isn't a prerequisite of getting a message across to people, ants, or slugs.

Also, it's not rational that a healthy, sane God would choose homicidal behavior as a means for someone to be informed they were forgiven for some alleged problematic behavior.

The main lesson taught, is that the brutal, prolonged slaughter of your son/brother/father will allow you to forgive others for past behavior. Are you prepared to kill off someone you car about to show your love for others?

This is a great question! The book had less to do with religion than with the human politics of those times. Good religious parables were needed to maintain social order. Some were based on a blood-thirsty god who sacrifices a kid.

There might be some truth in most religious texts. But there are also politically motivated stories like the Christ story.
