Some people think that "thier" is spelled t-h-e-i-r, and others think it is t-h-i-e-r. The saying may be "i before e, except after c", but it feels right writing it their. How is it really spelled?!

Their is correct. The i before e rule usually works for words with an "eee" sound (believe, grieve, achieve, ceiling, bier) but when there is an "air" sound it is usually ei (their, heir). OK?
