you wouldnt really say it to friends or family
as for au Revoir-its french and it means Farewell but you can use it as Goodbye

Spelling aside, they (and auf Wiedersehen, etc.) mean "See ya!" and are used as goodbyes with the expectation of meeting again in the future, as opposed to a final goodbye.
