i'm hoping someone can enlighten me on this. Why does disney take wonderful movies, put them on the market for a limited time and then take them off the market for like 10 years?!? I'm guessing its to get sales up or whatever. there are a few movies i would love to get my children, but they wont be in print again until my kids are too old to care about disney movies. so your only options are to spend a ridiculous amount of money buying these movies or bootleg them. why does disney do this?

The magic number is closer to 7 years, but that is because they figure that every seven years they have a new crop of kids who have never seen that particular movie. Part of the reason is to keep the demand alive for their classics.

The other part is more practical. It takes a lot of time to make enough copies to sell and it ties up the manufacturing end too much to keep re-printing copies of Cinderella-especially if they only need 100,000 copies. Cheaper to make 3 million copies at once and release the movie once.

Disney is not the only studio to do this. Most of the others limit availablity on certain titles. There are just too many movies made to keep them all in circulation.

Like you said, to up sales. They are trying to make a demand market for the movies by under producing them. This way they also create a greater market for items associated with the movies, figuring that if the kids can't get the movies they'll ask for these items to appease themselves until they can get the movies. So the toys, clothing, dishes, etc. now have a greater market than they would have had. Then instead of waiting the 10 years that you think they're going to wait, they'll do an advanced limited run, just to whet people's appetite's all over again.

Disney does this to make more money. Disney should keep movies on the market for a long time so people can actually buy the movies.

It's a conspiracy theory! Disney does this probably to make room for the newer films on the shelves at stores. Also, its pleases older kids, when they see the newer ones and are tempted to check out the whole section, while if you have movies that are like 5-10 years old, they'll just pass them buy, chances are they'll pass by something they like. So if you leave the old movies there they'll lose interest in the Disney section.

I think that its for the reason that you said. To make more money- they are hoping that we all run out and spend $30 on a movie. I've been trying to buy Disney movies for my daughter but like you said, they are so expensive. I've actually started buying them off of Amazon.

you answered your own question think about it every 10 years theres a whole new group of kids to experience it for the first time. then they say its a limited release and everyone runs out to buy it. look at flea markets and yard sales for the movies you want. cause there are lots of kids that are no longer are interested and you may as well let someone else pay the arm and a leg, their kids get sick of it and then you can get if for a few bucks.

Ok. They have a system where yeah, movies that are new are out for like 10 years and then go in the Disney Vault until for another ten years two or three movie are released from the vault and two or three new movies from ten years past go in the Vault and the system keeps repeating itself.

Supply and demand. Disney does this to drive up the demand for the movies. If a movie is unobtainable for 10 years, then more people want to buy it when it is released again.

Your best bet is EBAY or garage sales. Even second-hand shops. Disney is a bit odd I know. I used to love the movies when I was little. But just try the best you can. if you cant find them, try the books about Cinderella and stuff. It'll open their doors to reading.

It's just another way to make money...

I don't care so much for Disney movies anymore, anyway....
Can't they make a movie without one of the main characters having to experience the death of a loved one!?
