someday replace people going out and meeting people in "real life"?

For some people it has. People in general, rely more and more on technology which leads to the world getting more impersonal. This is very sad for humanity. :(

Not at all, what it will do (and already has done) is give people another way to meet.

I have made some wonderful friends via chat rooms, Friends for life.

You just need to feel comfortable enough to meet in person....

No because its not the same. I love to go out and meet new people because its fun.
