i have a 04 nissan sentra with about 58k on it. i have noticed that on some occasions the car takes too long to start. when i turn the key it will crank for about a good 6 or 7 seconds before firing up. this problem is not only in wet weather or cold weather.
i used to have this problem with my 94 but that's after letting it sit for more than a day. it turned out to be the fuel pump.
with the 04, the car could be sitting for less than 30 mins and still have a tough time starting. what's wrong here?

thanks.

Try your nissan dealer & have them check fuel pressure, I suspect it is dropping/leaking.Could be fuel pressure regulator or
possibly pump also, depending on how fuel system is designed

It may be that the fuel lines are not holding pressure. Try leaving the key in the "on" position for a couple of seconds before turning it to "start" - sometimes it's better to let fuel pressure pick up first, since the injectors won't work properly if there isn't enough pressure behind them. If this helps, then the problem is most likely either the fuel filter (not letting the fuel get to the injectors fast enough), or the fuel pump (letting pressure bleed back into the tank, so that the whole fuel line has to be re-pressurized each time you start the car.)

I also answered your other question on this matter....you shouldn't need a tune up, there isnt enough milage on the vehicle to warrant new plugs and wires. I'm betting on a clogged fuel filter. Or maybe clogged injectors. You can purchase fuel injector cleaner from the nissan dealership that you can add into a full tank of gas.

My recommendation to you is this : change your fuel filter and get some fuel injection cleaner.

Last time you had a tune up? Changed spark plugs? Ignition timing check? Air cleaner change?
Cars still have to be maintained as parts wear to keep them running in tip top performance.

if you want to safe money and headache, you need tools to diagnos your problem. otherwise you will wasting all the money for taking a guess from some strangers. problem with your nissan could be a relay, malfunction fuel pump,or leak injectors. again, you need tools to confirm it.
