Usually for gaming, people tend to stick with CRT's although they are bulky. Reason is because their response time is better than LCD which can produce blurring and ghosting when running high end games.

For the most part, in the old days, LCD's were too slow to keep up with the action in video games. You got a lot of "pixelation" (where you see those square thingies). Now, however, some of the LCD's are quite rapid. The main problem is finding one that can have the resolutions that will give you freedom to choose the best resolution for that game. Most LCDs have some limit on the resolutions they support and the refresh rates.

Some of the die-hard gamers are sticking with the CRTs. I don't know if they are right or not. Find a knowledgeable gamer and ask him.

i bought a 21" wide screen LCD for about $250. LCDs are the best way to go. If you don't buy a junk LCD, it will be good for gaming. That's what i use. No ghosting or anything.
The bad rap that LCD had for gaming are still left over from when they first came out, they improved much since then
www.newegg.com has pretty cheep stuff

Its a relative call. A large LCD with a high resolution will be expensive. CRT will be cheaper.

For my day to day work, I have an LCD (less power usage and heat dissipation, easier on the eyes), but for my graphics, I still have a GREAT Sony monitor.

Hope this helps.

Only advantage CRT has is color accuracy over a range of viewing angles. This is important for photographers who print their own pictures. Apart from that - LCD wins.

Less eye strain
Less power use
smaller footprint
Don't wear out (CRTs eventually do)
Sharper focus
etc
