By giving them healthy lunches and breakfast at school and by giving them healthy snacks at school and by teaching them to eat healthy well they are still young!!

Provide a reasonable exercise program for all children. In PE, often the "fat kids" are ignored and only the athletic ones get the attention. PE should focus on lifelong forms of sports and exercise--walking, jogging, tennis, golf, even bowling. There should be special classes for klutzes--there is usually a reason for their clumsiness, such as poor eyesight, or even minor brain damage resulting in poor muscle coordination.

Provide more fresh fruits and vegetables and palatable water for everyone to drink. Junk food and soda pop machines should be banned from campuses.

If a physical examine is required upon entrance to the school, doctors should note any conditions that might contribute to obesity or other health problems; hypothyroidism is one example. Any food allergies (the most common being milk and gluten) should be noted and the information given to the schools. Cooks should be instructed in preparing and serving healthy meals light on fats and carbohydrates. There should be alternatives for those on special diets as well-such as sugar free desserts.

Schools should have in-house classes for parents on nutrition--this would be a good topic for a PTA meeting. A doctor well versed in diet and food allergies should be on hand to answer questions.

The parents have to be the ones to ensure that their child gets healthy food. The kids eat what they have access to and if that's junk food they're gonna take it.

The kid's metabolism has to be set when the child is little, so they have to eat right so it'll be set right. If they get junk food on a regular basis, they'll get fat.

Kids also have run and around and get exercise, sitting in front of the Xbox 360 all day doesn't count as exercise.

All and all it's up to the parents to be responsible enough to make sure their kids eat right and lead healthy lives.

Take away video game consoles, the computer, television. Let kids get out and play. Elementry schools should all have some kind of physical education program and parents should encourage kids to get active as in sports. Also making healthier eating decisions start at home. Fast food and sugars should not consume our lives. I understand from time to time it is ok, but, we should all eat leaner and consume less. Portion control.

Not unless you address the problem at home. For every obese child there is a obese parent.

Involve the whole family and the community.

Make sure the parents and the kids know what a healthy diet is and the importance of exercise.

Have community wide health campaigns

It starts at home. Too many quick fixes for dinner (i.e. mac & cheese, Mc D's, etc.). They used to have health class when I was in school...I don't know if they still offer that course or not. The should, it would be a good topic to cover, "healthy eating habits"

Have mandatory phys ed classes five days a week, change the cafeteria menu to more halthy foods.
