No, but we still live in fairly segregated neighborhoods.
These are close guesstimates of racial makeup of a town in the Mississippi Delta.

Not legally. There are instances of de facto segregation, however (and not just in Mississippi). If school enrollment is determined by residence, and if neighborhoods are segregated (by economics, redlining in lending, or even self-selection), then the schools will be segregated, too. That's why there's busing in some communities.

Another way that schools are sometimes segregated is through the establishment of all-white private schools -- they stay that way by high tuition and/or limitation to certain religious groups. Not all private or parochial schools are segregated, but it is a technique that has been used this way.

Having lived in Mississippi over 3/4s of my life and living several places in the state I know of no schools that are segregated here. We also let them have jobs, they can work when they want to, they can drive and vote, many are colleged educated and hold very important jobs in the working places and schools. Yes there are private schools because 1) classes can be smaller 2) they want better chance of playing sports (not as many there to put them out) and yes, some because of the overload of minorities in a few schools.
So please, lets move on. Because we don't try to hide history because its sometimes ugly, we have advanced in this century.
Thank you

Legally, there can't officially be. But that doesn't stop people from segregating people in their minds and actions.
