I may be wrong but I think I am right.
Please correct me if I am wrong but with state abbreviations, do you not capitalize both letters? I know w/ the periods the second letter would not be capitalized like L.a. but now Louisiana would be LA, Texas would be TX (instead of La and Tx). Please correct me if I'm wrong!

In State Abbreviation

There are two sets of abbreviations for the states of the United States in widespread use. One set is the two-letter abbreviations introduced by the U.S. Post Office in about 1963. They are written with capital letters and no period. The other is the traditional (or conventional) abbreviations that developed over the years. They are written with only initial letters capitalized, and with periods. A few of the shorter state names don't have traditional abbreviations; you write them out.

Which type of abbreviation should you use? If you're writing for a newspaper, consult the editorial style guide used by that paper. For a government publication, use the postal codes. For schoolwork, if the teacher hasn't specified which type to use, just pick a style and stay consistent. If you're identifying a member of congress, use the traditional abbreviation, as in Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.).

The U.S. Postal Service wants the two letter abbreviation all caps and no periods. This is also the way other U.S. government offices write state abbreviations.
