I have this situation. I forget names as soon as they are mentioned in an introductiory conversation. i.e. I'm meeting this person first time in my life, I remember everything they tell me, their life story, where they work, and as soon as we exchange names, I forget their name, in a split second. It's been going on for the last 2-3 years of my life. Is this a disease I can blame it on? How can I treat myself? Thanks!

create names for them when you forget. when you need to talk to someone; instead of saying their name, just say excuse me..., then start the conversation. sir and miss work well in certain situations.

It's not a disease, it's actually common.

Have you ever tried mnemonic (sp?) techniques to remember names? Pay attention to a distinguishing featuer of the person's face or appearence and make up a little association with their name in your head. For example, if you meet a woman with red hair and her name is Rita - think Rita...Red. Or if you meet a guy named Nate with a big nose, think Nose. . . Nate. Or something along those lines.

If you can, try and say their name like "Nice to meet you ________".
