It sounds like an excuse...
And I wonder why she would need to think up an excuse to hand you!
Maybe its time to that talk ... you know! If she wants to become sexually active, well then she will most likely be succesfull. Isnt it better to support and advice, than not being in the loop at all?
And on the medical side... its not uncommon to gain OR loose weight on the pill. However there is no sure outcome. What is sure though, is that birth control pills are HORMONES. If not for birth control, then dont let your girl stuff herself with such things... there are other ways to loose weight - more naturally!
Birth control pills are the lesser of two evils. But not something you should take unless needed in my opinion.

Birth control pills do not help you lose weight. It's been a long time since I was on birth control pills, but from what I remember, birth control pills essentially trick your body into thinking it's already pregnant and that's why you don't ovulate. If anything, I would think the birth control pills would make you GAIN weight for that reason ... even if it's just a pound or two or water weight gain.

Totally an excuse. Almost all birth control pills make you GAIN weight and that is one of the main reasons a lot of women DON'T want to take them. Sounds very fishy indeed.

birth control pills do not help you lose weight. It is rumored that it actually makes you pack on a full pounds, as in you get more fuller. Which is also not true.Along with protection against pregnancy, it also helps to get rid of acne and helps you have regular and lighter periods. Did you two ever discuss her going on birth control. If you two are active, it would be best that she gets on the pill.

I've NEVER heard that birth control pills can help you lose weight. In fact, most women gain weight while on them. There's something that she's not telling you!

Most women gain a few pounds on birth control pills, so that's an unusual reason to take them. They do help with a lot of other problems, such as regulating the menstrual cycle, but weight loss is not known as one of their benefits. I might be suspicious...
