what is a good topic to give a presentation about? preferably something that happened recently and that its easy to show two points of view

How about the recent Kansas Board of education to stop teaching "alternatives" to evolution in schools.
I believe strongly in evolution, but there is a surprising number of people who think that alternatives, like creationism, should be taught. You could talk about the arguments on both sides of the issue.

The "good" topic is what your audience will like. Something they can related to, like complaining alot, or finding fault somewhere else and the blame game - these are both very popular. Or do you want to persuade them to see things from your eyes when something great, or strange, or painful, happened to you?
Public speaking is one of the most frightening things to do - perhaps you can start with how you went online to get ideas...accurate and valid this is yes? They can relate even though they did not do exactly what you did, right?

excellent home work question. it depends a bit on how much time you are allowed to present the two versions of the same case.there has been a double murder case in Mexico recently, the couple murdered were Canadians. the theory by the Mexicans is that the murder was initiated by professional hit-men ordered from Canada and the Canadian version is that the murders were "theft" related. who is right and who is wrong? while the two dead bodies are under-ground. Debate the issue, interesting.

Under present circumstances. the best topic will be "Morale values of war against terrorism". The object should be to improve the American image of present war in Iraq.
