I refuse to waste my money on and iPod. First they are extremely overpriced, secondly, I refuse to use iTunes, it is single-handily the worst media program ever made. The only reason so many people have them is because they are trendy and they think it is cool to have it, an mp3 player isn't going to make you cool, if you are pathetic, you will just be pathetic with a $300 mp3 player that holds less than half what mine does.
I have had a 20GB Rio Karma for a couple of years, but just got my little sisters the SanDisk Sansa e250s and I really like them and I might get the e280, which is just a larger capacity. Of all I have seen SanDisk Sansa is the best way to go, great quality half the price for twice the storage of an iPod and also has two features that are real awesome: 1) has a removable battery, so after a year or two worth of use when your battery life starts to decline you can buy a new battery for about $30, in this situation you would have to throw the iPod away. 2) it has upgradeable memory, there is an open MicroSD slot where you can purchase an SD card (like those in a digital camera) and place it in there to increase your memory. Currently MicroSD is only made up to 2GB, but eventually they will release larger sizes.

Every MP3 player has issues honestly. You just hear about the iPod issues more because so many more people have it.
Personally, I had an Archos Jukebox as my primary MP3 player until I decided to just use it as a backup storage device. At the moment, I have a iPod Photo 30 GB that I use as my main MP3 player.
But, honestly, I still use the Archos Jukebox at times, in particularly because it can take a beating; I've dropped it when I've gone for a jog and while it shuts down, it turns right back on again with any issues..and I have dropped it plenty of times. :-)

I owned a iPod, first a mini for a while, then to the Video. They are great devices. The only thing it, I didn't use it as much as I hoped, and I spent a lot of money on it. Including accessories and songs I spent over 800 dollars. I ended up selling it though.

I don't even know how to use an IPOD or an mp3,. I have an old fashion cd player built in the car. Occasionally when working out I turn on my husbands very expensive stereo. It works great.

I don't have an ipod but probably just because I'm an old fart. I've been through too many "new" technologies, and each one just ends up costing me more money. Sorry. I'm not into being suckered over and over.
Besides which, I've come to appreciate silence. Probably also just a function of being an old fart.

I use my vcast cell phone. It works as well as an ipod, and the sound is really clear. It's a good alternative to the ipod, although I like those, too.
