According to an article in Rolling Stone magazine he had tested positive three years ago. According to Tyler himself, he took treatment for it and he is 100% clean of it. Since he is richer than most people he took the extreme treatment for the disease which resulted in having the same side effects as Chemotherapy.
It can be contracted through sex when an infected woman, let's take for example, is having her period and the blood comes in contact with, let's take for example, an open sore on an uninfected man's groin.

HCV isn't a curable disease. Once you have it, you always have it. It's spread through blood transmission, so dirty needles, a tainted blood transplant, etc. will transmit the disease. It can be spread through sexual contact, but the CDC states that this is very rare. It's also a disease that can take quite some time to show up. He could have had it for quite some time and not displayed any symptoms that would have clued anyone in to the fact that he had the disease.

I am shocked to hear this and my thoughts are that Joe Perry thinks that Steven Tyler has call it quits from Aerosmith after Steven Tyler fell from a stage accident back on August 5 that Steve Tyler wouldnt return phone calls back to Joe Perry to confirm that he is quitting the band and alot of bands do replace people when they leave or fire them but the band wouldnt ever be the same again

Hepatitis C is not a curable disease. It can be treated but never cured, kind of like herpes. I'm guessing he got it from unprotected sex.

Hep c can lay dormant for years. It's spread through blood, not sex.
