It says to connect the iPod nano to the computer using the USB cord that came with it. I am plugging it into a USB 2.0 plug on the front of my computer and it's not registering. What's going on?

Have you tried installing the software for it? In particular, iTunes. If you have already, then it's possible that the front port of your computer is not USB 2.0 or the cable that came with the iPod Nano could not be working.

If you have not installed iTunes, definitely install iTunes. If you have installed it already, try another USB port on your computer, be it in the front of back. Before you do plug it in, turn on the iPod Nano. If it is not turned out and you plug it in, give your computer at least a few minutes to initialize it and such. You also may need to restart your computer after it does initialize.

If none of this helps, it's possible that the iPod USB cable that came with your iPod Nano doesn't work. Try another cable if you can and then try connecting the iPod Nano.

If none of this works, I'd see if you can get it exchanged from wherever you purchased it from.

Give it a few minutes to get a charge going if it were dead-on-arrival. Restart your computer, open up iTunes and try and see what happens. If you don't have iTunes you will need to download that as well.

On the Apple website there is a bunch of help they can provide.

You should get a Zune instead....

But maybe just loading the CD that came with your ipod will help?
Did you install the necessary programs?

Are you on a PC or a Mac?

God help you... I hope you have a PC.
