They are pretty much the same, but songs sometimes have a chorus that is repeated throughout the song. If you look at they lyrics to songs, they are just poems put to music. But they have to have a rhythm to them. Some poems don't follow any kind of rhyme or rhythm, they are just endless statements. That kind of poem could not be put to music, I don't think.

specific. there are a number of categories of poetry. working example: Narrative Dramatic Epic Lyric A lyrical poem is a poem than is meant to be finished to music. what's a poem finished to music? A music. a solid occasion of it relatively is The megastar Spangled Banner. whilst Francis Scott Key wrote it, he by no potential concept it would be a music, purely a poem. Then some years later they paired the music with an relatively standard English eating music and wha l. a.! The national anthem replaced into born!

Poems are songs with without background music. To turn a poem into a song, just add music to the background and sing the lyrics.

Well poems are kind of the same, exept songs flow a little diffrently, cause they have a beat, but if you find the right beat, you can turn your poems into songs, cause I write songs, but my mom thinks they are poems! Hope this helps!

Songs must have a musical notion that runs thoughout a poem does not.. Some songs are poems but many poems are not songs.

Sorry but nobody here knows WTF they are talking about.
Poetry and songs have a lot in common. But everybody is forgetting about METER!
Meter is of paramount importance! If you don't know what meter is then iambic pentameter will come back around to grab your butt. LOLOL!
Seriously--how can you possibly write lyrics for a song that doesn't have a meter to it? Why don't you all post your lyrics?
