I have a dell latitude pc with windows xp on it and it's so clogged up with stuff that I want to start over with a clean slate. It originally belonged to someone else who had windows 2000 on it and most of the stuff is theirs. Can anyone help?

You need an Original Windows XP CD-Rom.

If you have this then put the CD in the drive and restart your computer.

When the computer reboots the screen will indicate that you can boot from the CD, answer Yes.

Then Windows setup will start, it will ask you if you want to format the hardrive, answer yes, then Windows will take you through the install process.

reinsert the windows boot CD into the disc drive. Restart the computer without removing the CD. Windows will give you the option to reinstall. Select yes. Windows will then ask to either reformat or create a new partition for the new installation. Obviously, select reformat the drive C:

put the windows disc in and follow the prompts, It'll automatically format the hard drive and reinstall windows too.

Put disc in and boot from CD drive
let the program go through its file copying.
Then it will ask you whether you want to install windows
then accept license agreement
then where you want to install it(if you have only one windows installed it will already be highlighted)
hit d to delete the partition
enter to confirm
and L to confirm again
then choose NTFS format(you can use quick or long)
and then it'll format the hard drive and copy the files it needs to setup. Then it wil reboot and it will now start installing windows.
Tada!! you're done, OH don't forget to have the drivers ready for your computer.

Sorry if anything is off, all off the top of my head.

start, control panel, add and remove programs..remove everything rarely or hardly used. then go to user profiles and delete his profile with all the personal files. then go load and use adaware, avg and run both..then diskclean and defrag..if that doesnt work then do a fresh install with the recovery disc. if you dont have one, most techs will burn you one at the local swap meet.
