I don't smoke but I don't support the ban - yet another example of the nanny state interfering with people's lives.
It should be up to the publicans, club owners, restauranters to decide if they will or won't allow smoking in their own premises.
If it's a government owned building then the government can make the rules but they're dictating to private individuals what they can and can't do in privately owned premises.

I'm a smoker in California.
I rarely spend any time in taverns since the ban. Drink and smoking go together.
I HATE having to go outside all the time to smoke.
They had a ban on all public indoor places except bars until a couple of years ago, when bars were included.
If they didn't enforce it, there would probably be a system of smoking bars and non-smoking bars -- which would be the best of all possible worlds. Smokers could smoke, non-smokers could be in a smoke-free environment.
That, of course, would make great sense, and thus is not the way things work.
sigh

Smoking is bad.. mmmkay?
On a serious note. I think smokers are looking at this whole impending ban in the wrong light. It's not that they're having their rights 'taken away'. It's that they law and legislation want to protect the people that have to work in these establishments and the non-smokers that frequent them.
Preventing people from hurting other people even in subtle ways has always been the goal of laws and those that uphold them. This is a natural result of the will to keep people healthy and protect the 'innocent'.
So don't look at this so much as someone's rights being violated as much as a wake up call that, not only are you hurting yourselves, but you're going to start (just the beginning) being held accountable for it.
Which, I think, is long overdue.

Yes I smoke, and have tried several times to quit just because I know this is unhealthy for me. I will try again, and hopefully I will succeed. But I think that if the smoking ban will be enforced, it will just make a cleaner environment for the non-smokers. It is not that big of a deal that we can't smoke in pubs anymore. In fact, in the United States a lot of indoor places are forbidden to place, so you have to get out to smoke. The politicans just want a safer place for the non smokers, and it's not that annoying, I don't think.

Well, by the way the goverment works, everybody is going to get arrested for loitering because they will be standing out side the pub having a smoke. Im rather peeved to be honest, but I can understand why they are enforcing it, but it would be better if they kept to having a particular indoor area actually for smoking in. x

I smoke and we already have the smoking ban here. Most pubs and clubs have a special smoking area and some of them are pretty cool. Its really not that bad.
