Sorry, the "er doc" is wrong. The answer is YES. The prostate is the gland that produces semen which mixes with the sperm from the testicles during ejaculation. The prostate is absolutely critical for ejaculation and without mixing with semen, the sperm is simply absorbed by the body. It does not have any way to get out of the body, so you are sterile. Orgasm for a person with no prostate is completely "dry", except for the possible emission of lubrication from the Cowpers gland.

A prostatectomy (removal of the prostate) also dramatically effects the ability to have and maintain an erection, even if the nerves are preserved during surgery. If they can get them (Cialis and Viagra may help), erections may be shaped differently than before. They are usually smaller and may not be as rigid as before surgery. However, orgasms may be possible even though an erection is not.

Penile implants - there are several types - are the only way a man with a complete prostatectomy can be assured that he can get and sustain an erection. A few very lucky men have no problem with erections after surgery, but the vast majority do.

It is highly unlikely that sperm taken from the testicles and not mixed with semen will be able to impregnate a woman. The only other way might be invitro, but that is very expensive and I was told by my urologist that he had never heard of a successful procedure. I was told that my baby-making days were over.

The prostate's most important function is to produce most of the fluids in semen, as well as the fluid that transports the sperm. Within the prostate are tiny ducts that transport this fluid to the urethra. During ejaculation, this fluid is released through the penis. Therefore, without it, a man would have much difficulty with the flow of sperm reaching it's destination.

No. The testicles manufacture the sperm. The seminal vesicles store the sperm for the next ejaculation. The testicles, prostate, cowpers glands make lubricant and nourishment for the sperm after they are ejaculated.
havig the prostate removed will not affect sperm production, but may affect your chances of getting an erection. You see, the nerves that help the penis to maintain an erection go through the prostate. When the prostate is treated for benign prostate hypertrophy (heat, removal, tamponading...) it could damage the nercves...
good luck

Being sterile means you cannot ejaculate sperm or you don't have any. You will be STERILE without TESTICLES which are in a different part of the body.
