i have windows i vista now, so i transferred all my old files from windows xp into windows vista. im just having problems loading programs that have 3D things in them. For example everytime i try loading a game, a msg comes up and talks about a video card driver not supporting the program. and it also says something about it running in software rendering mode. does anyone know what that means? i've tried getting help online and the help and support section. i've also tried upgrading this video card thing. but nothing is working..does anyone know how i can get my programs to work?

Your computer has two options for running graphics for games and anything else. It can us the power of it's processor and ram to do the math to create the graphics (software renduring), or it can use the video processor and video ram for the same math (hardware renduring). It is always better to let the video card do all the work (hardware renduring). But, you seem to be a victim of compatibility and bugs. Vista is new. It will take time to work out all the bugs. Contact the vendors of the software and hardware for each bug and give them the notes you have taken for each error. Mark down any changes to the system such as updates to software and hardware. Things will work out sooner or later later later later...hint.

Well, you might need a new driver. Go to the manufacturer's web site and see if they have an upgrade driver file. It may well be that the card is too old, or never was capable of 3D, but I'm assuming you used it for 3D before. Finally, you might need to upgrade the DirectX drivers. You can get the latest ones from Microsoft. To find out what your version of DirectX is, go to a command prompt and type dxdiag. If you don't have version 10, go to the Microsoft web site and get it and install it.
