Why is Clark Kent's (Superman) weakness Kryptonite if he came from the planet Krypton? That would like be if someone from Earth was allergic to dirt. Does anyone know why this is or am I missing something?

because Kryptonite is not ACTUALLY the planet Krpyton it is the radiation that enventually led the planet to go BOOM. The residaul pieces of the panet are LACED with the radiation therefore makes people from there sick.

In Superman home planet he didn't has 'super power' like he do on earth because of the kryptonite scattering all over the planet. Because of that whenever he's exposed with Kryptonite it'll changes him back to normal state--non super power mode. Most DC character usually has a weakness from outside/alien stuff that didn't existed on earth if you noticed. Maybe because their superpower was ridiculously 'SUPER POWER' compared to Marvel stuff.. Not sure if this the answer you're looking for though. If you want more specific/detailed answer about the effect of Kryptonite refer to the link guy above me provided.

Simple - he's an alien and the DC writers wanted some kind of believable weakness to give him; they wanted to instill some form of realism into the Superman stories. Otherwise you'd have this superhuman entity going around being TOO powerful.

some people are allergic to dust, which might as well be dirt. there are plenty of things here on earth that are harmful to us. so why can't there be things from krypton that is harmful to superman?

plus it is only certain types of kryptonite that is harmful to superman. just as certain metals (radioactive heavy metals or lead for example) are harmful to us.

still i like to poke at the kryptonite phenomena. i don't quite understand it myself.
