It depends. Are you on the pill? There are birth control pills that you take for 21 days, then the last 7 days of the pill packet are sugar pills. It's during this time that you'll get your period. It shouldn't last for 7 full days, though. Usually women on the pill have lighter periods. If you are not taking the pill and having extra cycles every other month, it could be due to some other hormonal problem. Or sometimes a benign cyst on the ovaries can throw your cycle off by releasing an egg at the wrong time. Either way, I would get it checked out by a gynecologist just to make sure it's nothing serious. And to find a resolution if it's bothering you. Hope this helps.

How old are you? If you're very young that's completely normal. Normally periods start out irregular when you first hit puberty and when you're older (like 19+) they start becoming more regular. A few years ago I was getting two periods a month sometimes too. If it's really annoying you (and it does sound annoying), I highly recommend taking birth controls pills to make it regular.
If you're older I believe there's a possibility it might indicate a problem, you might want to see a doctor. But as a rule menstrual irregularity is quite common and normal.
