My son is 6 months old and I have tried him on rice cereal a few times,he will eat it sometimes and others he will have nothing to do with it.I gave him avacado yesterday,he seemed to like it,I will try it again tomorro,I am working with a Dietitian at my local childrens hospital as to what to start my son on but she could not really help me with times that were good :( My son is very small (13lbs 9 oz)and needs to gain weight before his next heart surgery so I really need some help on feeding!!Thank you ahead of time!!My question is when you started your baby on rice and other solids did you find a specific time of day that your baby was more likely to want to eat? When they first get up?After their first nap? Before bed?

He does sit in his high chair,he is also allergic to dairy and soy so he is on Similac Alimentum and I add 1 and 1/2 tsp on Nutramigen to 100 mls of his formula to boost calories.

Try when he is hungry....but not too hungry or he will be frustrated and not want to eat.
does he sit in the highchair? I fed my daughter while we ate dinner. she was awake at dinner time. had usually just woke up from a nap, and was not famished as she had a bottle before the nap she just woke up from. She was so curious about what we were doing that she wanted to eat too.
I would say:
-2 hours after a bottle
-shortly after a nap
-when others in the family are eating.

good luck!

I know this is going to sound weird, but try when your little guy is not hungry. My daughter is the same way, one day she will be eating cereal the next wants nothing to do with it. I realized that I was feeding her food when she was really hungry, so she was just getting frustrated, she wanted her bottle, to her its fast and she knows she likes it. I tried feeding her solids and such in between and I have notcied that she is taking them alot better. So if you feed your little guy at say 8:00 try feeding food at about 9:30 or ten. Not sure if it will work for you but you might give it a try. Good luck and god bless.

With both of my kids I started them out at 4 mths. I actually started rice cereal around 3 mths just to get them used to the spoon.. Also, both of my kids were on a breakfast, lunch dinner schedule by 4 mths.. All babies are different so you might have to try a few things out, but I wish you the best of luck!!

I started rice at 3 weeks old so I could have a little peace at night!!!

I then started stage 1 foods at 3 months and hes taken off from there. Now 1yr old and determined to feed himself like a big boy.

Good luck

my baby likes a bottle immediately when she wake up but about an hour after that shes ready for her cereal. sometimes i will give her half the bottle stop and feed some rice and then let her finish the rest of the bottle to wash it down.

In addition to giving him cereal in the mornings, mashed up potatoes and veg with minced meat and gravy from your own meal for lunch and dinner...add rice cereal to the milk in his bottle.
This will give more body to the milk and fatten him up quickly.

Also, try giving him porridge made from arrowroot and milk. He can have this for breakfast or thin down for a bottle feed.

He will be putting on weight in no time.
