Hello,

I have spent all yesterday waxing my car with three coats and today it looks like it is going to rain.

Unfortunately the car has to be driven in the rain and parked for a while but what can I do when I bring it home to remove all the rain / dust? Can I juse use a chamois or will that leave scratches and dust? I want to be able to remove the grime but not the wax I just applied. Is there some products out there that can do this? I have heard of a waterless washing system spray? I am afraid this might remove the wax though and I will have to reapply it.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Washing with a car wash soap will not remove all of your wax, just don't use dishwashing liquid. You need something to lubricate any wiping towel or you may introduce scratches. Don't just use water. Use a spray wax after drying.

You can use a quick detail spray and a microfiber towel to wipe down the car as long as the car didn't get too dirty.

I do car and truck detailing on the side, so I understand that you are going to want your car to look good all the time. But let's face it, its going to rain eventually. By waxing the car you are helping protect your car from natures elements whether it be rain, snow, or the sun. As long as there is not sand/dirt/mud, on you car use a microfiber towel or chamois to wipe down the water left on your car from the rain. If there is mud or something on your car, make sure you spray it off with a light mist before wiping it down with a sponge. If you don't spray it down, anything you use will act as a sandpaper and just scatch your car beyond belief. Using a regular cotton towel can cause slight scratches to your wax job, or paint job, so try and stick with a microfiber towel, which has more strands of fibers per square inch than a regular cotton towel. Try and use a mild car wash to get the minerals from the rain off your recently waxed car.

Yes, there are products at the auto-parts stores and automotive centers that are made for just that purpose. It's a car washing solution designed not to strip wax. Usually a particular wax- brand will put out a car- wash that they recommend to be used with there wax and, I have found that not only does it not strip-off there wax but, generally doesn't strip-off any other wax either. The reason I'm telling you this is because there are many more brands of wax then there are brands of car-wash solutions.
Also, when it comes to cleaning my truck when it is only slightly dirty, I spray it with water and wipe it dry with a ordinary bath towel. Or sometimes without wetting the truck I soak a towel with water, ring the water out of the towel by hand and just wipe the truck clean.

Just a chamois will work fine unless you are travelling through muddy roads. Hose the car down to get any grime or mud off of it, then wipe with a chamois eh voila! just like new.

Just wash your car with water and no soap, when you use soap it takes the wax off and get yourself the absorber chammy, you can find it at walmart or autozone and it costs about $10.00 and really works good and won't take wax off like a normal chammy will.
