1. its new - there will be a lot of bugs. some of it have not yet been discovered. you will have to update it later with a patch. which means that it will not be as stable as xp. thats what microsoft does. funny thing is that all the things that vista can do is availabe in mac for sometime already.

2. Its very demanding in hardware. You may need to upgrade you processor, RAM and video card. You should have at least 1 MB or RAM and the latest fastest video card. EXPENSIVE

If you are buying a brand new computer with Vista on it, then it will built to cater for its specs. Someone installing it on to an existing computer will need to have very chunky hardware to support the heavily relied graphics interface. (from what I know)
Drawbacks may be that current software you use will not run on this operating system. I know there is a 3D CAD package (released for 2007) that will not run on Vista. The company that produced this package wasn't confident in the stability of the platform.
But this is only one package... so just be sure that the software you NEED will run ok on Vista.
I haven't heard of any bugs in the platform, it is still relatively new though...

It might have a few rough spots, but in general works very well.

There are always nay sayers for each new Windows versions.

I've used it for 4 months without problems. Let's face it, Vista is the next Windows. And getting it now will save you the heartburn of upgrading later.

XP is actully faster than Vista because Vista takes up more memory, RAM, etc. It's just a waste. P.S. I agree with everyone elses answer.

It is brand new, and it is full of bugs, which needs to be panned out, like like the old Windows XP.

It sucks really bad at this time. I would still go XP Home Edition or Pro at this time.
