The two things I really care about are 1. battery life- the longer the better and 2. Software- I hate it when I can't just move my music and organize it when I want. I hate itunes.

Samsung is the best one out there for durability and user friendly capabilities and uses Windows Media Player.

with a straight USB connection (no cord needed). It held about 20 songs as well as any other kind of file like a flashdrive. You just use Windows Media Player to sync. Easy as pie. Got it from Amazon. It comes with more memory for a little more money. Love it.

(the 128 is rated much higher than the 256mb...I've got the 128 - great enough...)
