Seriously, is there a way through Internet Explorer or some software I can buy to block this site from being accessed from my family personal computer.

There might be, but what is going to prevent her from accessing myspace from a friends comp? Or the Library or at school or someones laptop. You can't put your daughter in a bubble. Myspace is a good outlet for kids. Its like a diary, and therapy , and journaling all in one. My daughter has had a My Space for3 yrs, she is 16 now. I have no problem with it. If you have taught your daughter to use the computer responsibly, and to be aware, and to not talk to anyone other than friends, she should be okay. I do understand your concern, but where there is a will there is a way. She will still access MySpace somewhere else.

password encrypt the entire computer and leave it in public space. and be with her when she is on the internet altogether.
Oh, and btw, she will access it from somewhere else.
You must discuss the problems of meeting random strangers, pornography, and gambling. You cannot avoid these topics. Given her age she probably knows that computer better than you. it takes about 3-4 minutes to get around blocking software. She can download new browsers or create a new user under windows or osx and completely bypass any software.

There's a website called "netnanny.com" I believe you can get a 15 day free trial then you have to buy the software. It allows you to block certain sites and decide how long each member of the household can be on the internet. Each person gets a username and password. You can also make it so they can't get on at a certain time of day.Hope this helps. :)

Okay, I think the best way is to set up your computer to have seperate log on names for each member in your family. Then you can adjust the settings for each member of the family. So, your daughter would log on through her user name and her password, and then you can set it so she can't access certain sites.

But you know I am not sure how you can do this.

Realisticly, No you can't. Kids know how to overide any lockouts you put in place. And even if they don't, they will use it at school or at the library or a friends house.

Here is what computer expert Leo Laporte recomends.

Allow them to make a profile if:
They make it private: only friends can see it

They give you the password with the understanding that you will check in every once in a while.

Make it known that she doesn't have permission to give out her phone number, address or any other informatin other than am email address and chat handle.

I'm sure there is software or perhaps even a built in way to block it, but why? Is there something evil about Myspace?

There is a way.
If you dont want her to use it forever, like not even log on, go to her account settings and click on the link that cancels it.

If you dont want to do that go to the Control Panel [Windows only] and click on Internet and Connection Settings, go to the bottom, go to Internet settings, and click delete all cookies.

If you just dont want her to access it with like just parental controls, then that depends on your internet
