They're not:
-They're are our biggest trade partner. If we stopped trade with them, they would be done.
-They threatened supply of food to North korea if North Korea conducted another nuclear test
-They are one of the permanent members of the UN
-They have been becoming better friends with the US
-They are rational; they would not start a war

As long as we don't instigate a war with them, we are fine

I agree with all these economic explanations as very solid arguments against China being a threat. Unfortunatly, for some factions, these things have nothing to do with reality and everything to do with maintaining the American identity as the defender and leader in protecting democracy world wide. Which frankly, I find ironic since many of us outside the US don't see your country as having attained the position of being the pinical of democracy on this planet. Or, maybe, there is some other reality that we the general public are not privy to. So what else is new! Sorry.

When I watch American television, which I do enjoy, along with Brit and Canadian broadcasting and even a few shows on radio that are from other countries, I do notice a great deal more self...well you do go on about yourselves as if you are the center of the universe and there is always an American flag somewhere in the picture. What I am getting at here, is that having an enemy to compare yourself with, is a great way of reinforcing your identity as some kind of global super hero.

There are so many dangerous things going on right now it is hard to say what is worse. I can tell you this though, both China and the United States are two of the biggest environmental threats to everyone on this planet right now, if we are talking 'man made' issues! By the way who has the latest count on nuclear weapons and who has the most of them? Who produces the highest amount of weapons grade plutonium in the world right now? Ever try to take a walk down the bank of the Hudson river. I heard a photographer did once. WOW! Very, very scarey.

So lets just mutually clean up our acts and stop playing cowboys and Indians. The real thing was much worse and will get even uglier. Hollywood and reality don't usually mix well, though they have met for a good meal now and then. Thank you Al!

Freedom of information, the press, knowledge and lots of it! That is something we all need to fight for. Are we sure we have it?Secure it.

Good luck, from one human being to another. Peace!
From little me to little you.

For the US and China to get along financially is a boon for both countries. China was given favored nation trade status relatively recent. This is why they are doing so well. They have grown by leaps and bounds since.

Biggest threat how? militarily? economically? how?

China holds the equivalent of over a trillion US dollars in foreign currency reserves, about 800 billion in US dollars. They could if they so chose send the US economy into a spin, but being that it is our economy that fuels theirs this would be a self defeating proposition.
