This is how the United States participated in World War II:
A. Before Pearl Harbor (9/1/1939 - 12/7/1941)
1. Supplied arms, equipment, and supplies to Britain and the USSR via the Lend-Lease program. Provided naval escort to convoys halfway across the Atlantic.
2. Exerted diplomatic and economic pressure on Japan to stop its aggression in China. Imposed an oil and steel embargo on Japan.
B. After Pearl Harbor
1. Waged war against Germany and Italy. Participated in invasions of North Africa (1942), Sicily and Italy (1943), and France (1944). Produced many trucks, tanks, airplanes, and guns for waging war. Sent many troops to the European theater. Provided shoes and food for the troops.
2. Waged war against Japan in the Pacific theater. Won naval victories at Midway, Leyte Gulf, and elsewhere. Engaged the Japanese navy in the Coral Sea and at Guadalcanal. Waged war with U.S. submarines and against Japanese submarines. Invaded and captured many Japanese-held islands, including Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Saipan. Bombed Japan with B-29 bombers. Dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

yes US definately did take part in WWII. Infact US is the country which developed atom bomb and dropped it in Japan twice (one is in Nagasaki and other is Hiroshama, two major cities of Japan) which resulted in their Japan's defeat.
US was not involved in the beginning it was Germany that started it (of course you know Hitler don't u) and i think around a year or something US came in the war against Germany supporting France and had victory at the end.

I might add that the U.S. was reluctant to supply the arms for lend-lease. Not to defend Hitler, but in response to the first answer, I believe the war was started by the allies with the Treaty of Versailles, it was their job to bring WW1 to a conclusion instead of a suppression. If Hitler had not been using racist reasoning for the second world war, many would have felt he was justified in his actions.
