What Tycha said is right. But also consider that a Komodo dragon is a large predator. It's likely to kill a dog outright, instead of having to wait for the dog to die of infection.
People should also stay away from dragons.

Everything should stay away from dragons. They are disgusting.

When a dragon eats, flesh from its kill remains in its teeth. This rots and decays. When the dragon bites the next thing, the bite carries decaying flesh on the dragon's saliva into the wound. Instead of just killing the hapless creature outright, it gets to run away, but it is carrying blood poisoning and will die soon. The dragon follows it and comes upon it when it has collapsed and eats it.
