For how long, and while you do...what? :P If you're in the room and there are no small children / animals running about - then it can be fine. Although some electric ovens will not run while the door is open due to a sensor.

It is absolutely NOT safe to use your oven as a home heater while it is on. Even an oven can overheat. Electric ovens can start a fire, gas oven can leak carbon monoxide or explode. Running a hood to keep this from happening only defeats the purpose. Most of the time, a hot oven needs to be closed up.
You can however, leave the oven open after you are done baking something to boost your heat while the oven cools down...turn oven OFF and when the heat is gone, it's gone.
One thing is this can mess with your home's heating thermostat if the sensor is near the stove...like what happens when you run the fireplace, it is so warm there, that the house's heating system shuts off and freezes out the rest of the house. So something to think about.
