Yes. And while we are at it I would like to have Martin Luther King changed to a white man so whites will feel better about themselves. Also, let's attribute the creation of jazz to Asians, and let's say that the blues originated in Mexican migrant farm working fields. In addition, I would like to let the American Indians get the credit for the invention of soul food and jive talking.

I think you are on to something here. Let's start right away.

No. The Declaration of Independence was just that: a declaration. It declared that we were now independent from Great Britain and that we were to establish our own government. The document doesn't actually control any aspect of our current government, as this is the job of the Constitution (with all applicable amendments, to include the first ten, also known as the Bill of Rights). Modifying a document that is of no actual consequence to our current government would accomplish nothing, other than defacing a historical document, and concealing our nation's past.

It is part of the history. "Sanitizing" historical documents seems pretty much like locking up mad relatives in an attic somewhere, and pretending no one will remember them anymore. It happened, it was dealt with, and its over. At least in the US it is, because slavery itself is alive and well in many parts of the world.
