Well im going to try to cut this from a long story to a short one. But as the question refers, im a little anxious as to whether or not he actually might have some hearing loss. My son is 7wks old and ive been told by family that he should be turning towards my voice from roughly about this age. He doesnt respond to a lot of loud noise but i have seem him blink a few times when i clap for him. He is extremely energetic so i bought a rocker with a rattle and mobile attached and even tried getting his attention with the rattle. He doesnt turn towards it, nor does he react. He has had a newborn hearing test which is known as SWISH here in Australia and he did pass it with flying colours. But im just a little anxious as to whether i should take him for another hearing checkup.
I would really like to ask mothers and fathers out there with little kids. What age did your baby turn towards sounds and start cooing. And if any parents have kids with hearing loss, what were the signs?

Lmao Chaos. I dont think so. If he had hearing before he was asleep then a horn just might stun the poor little bugger! Very funny, but i wouldnt try it hehe. As for the saucepan trick i might just have to try that one.

put your baby facing away from you in his chair and drop something noisy like a saucepan on the ground see what happens. You like all of us are probably worrying about nothing but if you are concerned i would see you health visitor or doctor so that you can sleep better at night (remember not all babies develop at the same rate like not all situp get teeth or walk at the same rate) best wishes to you and your bundle may you both have loads of joy from one another - he is lucky to have a mum like you

Birth to Three Months:

* Most babies are startled by loud unexpected sounds
* Most children at this age begin to make sounds such as gurgling, babbling, or cooing.
* Most children recognize the sound of their mother's (or primary caregiver's) voice and begin to turn toward the sound of his or her voice at around three or four months. The sound of the primary caregiver's voice will often calm a crying baby, even for a moment.

And check out the website in my sources.

My second son was around three months old when he started to seem interested in the noises around him but I too worried that maybe the test at the hospital was wrong. Just give it some time if there is any concern discuss it with your child's pediatrician at his next visit but i'm sure there is nothing to worry about.

My son will completely ignore the blender, but jumps at the sound of paper ripping. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about but make sure to mention it to your doctor.

If your baby is sleeping, break out the air horn and see if the baby wakes up.
