Are you looking forward to the movie?
What do you NOT WANT in the movie? (Like rock soundtrack, love story, side-story about someone else, near-teenage hero--all that junk.)

I read it in seventh grade on my own, and then again senior year in class. Personally, I love it. I think it's one of the greatest stories ever told (and I'm not the only one considering how long this story has been passed down). I wasn't aware there was a movie being made, and now that I do I hope it sticks to the book. Hopefully there won't be any love triangle going on, like in Pearl Harbor. Christ that movie was awful. Would have been good if it weren't for that damn Hartnet/Affleck/Fug-Woman love story.

I read it my senior year in high school and as a teacher have had my seniors read it.

What I found most interesting about it was the combination of pagan and Christian elements, which happened from it being passed down orally through those generations when the culture was making those transitions.

I have seen the movie starring Gerard Butler, it is now out on video. I must admit, I hated it. I don't want to ruin it for you, but the creators took a lot of liberties in retelling the story. They have added a female witch character who has a sexual encounter with Grendel, and who later develops a sexual relationship with Beowulf as well. There is a bit of a twist to that, but I won't give it away if you plan on seeing the movie. Also, all of the actors have either Scandinavian or Scottish accents, but the witch, played by Sara Polley, has a completely American accent, which ruined the realism of it.

No you fool, Beowulf is a very previous English poem celebrating a Scandinavian hero named Beowulf. After comments of a village being puzzled through a monster, Beowulf inspects the English village, unearths the monster and kills it, sorting out that the monster had had a touch one with a human. Then the mummy of the monster lures Beowulf into her lair and tries to kill him yet Beowulf prevails and saves the day. desire this helped.

I think I first read it in Jr. High and then again in High School. I didn't know they were making it into a movie. If they can keep it serious, it might be pretty good.

I have read the Beowolf book to my kids, ages 10 and 13.

We are excited to see the movie, however in my opinion books are always better because we can use our imaginations.
