You should get the birth certificate first. I had to get a replacement SS card and I needed my birth certificate (although there may be other documents you can use.) Here is what I would do: Contact your local SS office first and ask them exactly what you will need. If you need the b.c., then you should be able to contact the county office of birth and get a new copy (but I believe there is a small fee.)

You can write the office of vital statistics in the state where you/they were born to obtain new birth certificates. See the local Social Security office for new cards. You will probably need the birth certificates to obtain new cards unless you have something like a military ID which has your SS Number on it.

If kids born in the US, you contact the county office where they were born, to get a replacement birth certificate. To get a new SS card, contact the local SS Administration office nearest you. I replaced my SS card not too long ago, you just need a little persistence, it can be done!

For the birth certificate....I just went and got one for my husband last week. I just looked up birthcertificates on the computer in the town I lived in and was given the addresses where I could go and get them. All they required me to have or to say was that I was the wife of the person requesting them or if you are the parent just say your the parent. It was not difficult at all. I have also gone and gotten SS cards replaced for myself. I think all I needed was I think 2 forms of identification and just went to the SS office and requested it. Call them first because here in the city I live in I had to wait quite awhile at the office just to get service to get them. Also if your not in a hurry you can get the birth certificates online. Cost a few dollars more but they will be mailed to you. birth certificate by the way cost me $ 23.00 to replace.

Youll need to go to the Social Security Administration office with proper documentation that you are a Citizen like Tax Returns showing your SS #. It takes like 10-15 days and youll get new ones in the mail.
Take those to the local Health Department and they can re-issue a copy of your birth certificate.
Hope this helps!

You can request a birth certificate from the hospital without any photo ID. You may need to know what your SS number is, but I don't believe you actually need the card. As far as photo ID, if you went to college you may be able to get them to issue you an ID even if you aren't currently a student. Hope it works out for you. PS- What a prick!!

Go to the social security place to get a replacement and to the couthouse or city to obtain a birth certificate and one only needs to bring the necessary documents to obtain. Document needed will be on the application of what is required for purchase.
