We were never monkeys. That is not what the theory of evolution states. As primates, which humans and monkeys are, we share a common primate ancestor. Our ancestors, like monkeys and apes, displayed adaptations for life in the trees, and there is much that we can learn from studying primate behavior to better understand our human origins. Many people are confused by this because ofthose simple drawings depicting the evolution from ape to human as if it were a linear process. But how did you get from cat to squid?!?

As I stood at the primate exhibit at the zoo, I heard people say, "Look at his eyes. Look how she holds her baby. Those two little ones play just like my kids."

When I saw the squid in the tank, I didn't hear anyone say, "That one in the corner reminds me of my kitty." Wonder why?

Absolutely! Great point- cats and squid both have tentacles, love water, and like to kill mice.
