she is 15lbs and eats a few teaspoonfuls of cereal in a bowl by spoon twice a day along with formula. eats great and has digested this cereal well since she was eight weeks old. i know what most pediatricians say to wiat the 4-6 months but this is because their bellies are so small at younger stages and arent ready to digest these types of food. allergies can occur at any time no matter what. not trying to rush just wanted to give her a tast of something else. that cereal seems so yucky flavor wise.

actually we had to give her rice so early because she was eating 8 oz of formula every two hours. just a hungry baby and we recently brought her to the pediatrician and i dont know where they graduated from but she is whom i get most of my information other than being an experienced second time mother and they told us she has what they call silent reflux and to increase the rice as this helps with the reflux. I am waiting until she is four months old to feed her anything other than what she gets i was just curios as to if it has been done. shes a very hungry baby and the rice has never affected her in a negative way. and i would never feed my child to get them to sleep my baby sleeps just fine. in bed by 8pm awake at 530am. thanks for the answers that aren't criticizing my parenting skills.

Its not because their bellies are small, its because their digestive tract isn't fully developed to handle solid foods. You're going to give your child what you want no matter what people tell you. Just a warning: bananas cause constipation.

I would hold off for a few weeks before giving her anything else. I really wouldn't recommend cereal until 4 months, but since you are already doing this I would just continue for a few weeks before introducing any other solid.

I introduced our little girl to vegetables first...peas, carrots, green beans, squash, spinach, then introduced the sweet fruits...bananas, apples, peaches, etc. She is almost 18 months old and is wonderful at eating her veggies. I think getting them used to the taste of vegetables at an early age is important, especially before introducing them to fruits.

Remember to wait a few days before trying new foods to see if any particular food is causing a problem. You can also eventually mix her cereal with yogurt (we use Yo Baby by Stoneyfield Farm)...it's more pleasant and yogurt is so good for them.

We did not at that young with either of ours, but a close couple we are friends with did...Neither way seemed to make a difference. Do what you think feels right. But here is why we did not. It is hard to get them to eat bland cerial once they have had some tasty stuff like bananas. Also, by introducing things slowly, one at a time, you know what has caused an issue in the event that there is one. Our daughter had an issue after she started eating baby food green beans...since it was the only new thing, we did not give here anymore - problem solved.

Just make sure you squish them up...choking hazard. (I know you know, but...)

i would first try the bananna flavored cereal. honestly i started feeding my now 6 mo daughter baby food at that age. only buy stage 1 and start w/ veggies.if not she will only want sweets i would wait till she is used to baby food then smash up banannas and put it in her cereal. my daughter drinks less formula now cause now she is 6 months and eating stage 2 three times a day! you can even try applesauce.

my nephew was over 10 lbs when he was born and by the time he was 2 months old he was throwing up his formula because he was so big that is stomach needed something more and the doctor said that it was ok to feed him cereal. I fed my kids cereal and friut early. Just a little at a time, not over feeding them. They were fine. But some babies aren't ok with that so just watch carefully. i think that it could be good for babies to eat food off a spoon earlytoo. I work with babies and some parents dont feed there babies off a spoon and it takes longer for them to swollow solids.I think what you are doing is ok just as long as your baby is ok.

Have you ever tasted formula? Talk about "yucky flavor wise"........please do not give a 14 week old anything else just yet. You may think the cereal tastes bad, but trust me......the baby does not.

She shouldn't even be getting cereal now. It's not merely that their stomachs are small - their intestines are immature. They can't digest anything but breastmilk (and formula, if you must).

She has the rest of her life to eat cereal and bananas. It won't make her sleep better. If anything, she'll sleep worse due to a tummy ache. Don't push it.

Dear, I do not want to preach and you seem to know the answer anyway. I suppose it is too late to go back to breast-feeding... or is it?

Although bananas are not alergenic, put it off till she can sit up in her high chair properly ... that's about 5-6 months. There is plenty of time.

You are out of your mind. When did you graduate from medical school? You are wrong on all accounts and are doing a huge disservice to your baby!!

Babies need only breast milk or formula for the first 6 months of life.

What you know about properly caring for a baby is frightening little.
