Because alot of people are ignorant and not smart enough to be as open minded as you. But belive me, alot of people think like you do, so don't worry we are out here.

A lot of it is based upon fear and the idea that a certain way is the only way to behave. People in the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies tried to convert as many Native peoples as they could--but it wasn't just a matter of going to church. The Pequots and Wampanoags and other tribes were told they had to give up every aspect of their culture, live in towns and wear European clothes. But even these "Christianized savages" [the European's designation for these people, not mine] were looked on with suspicion, and many were killed during the Pequot War.
Interestingly enough, during this time there were a certain number of European settlers that decided the native way of life was superior to the ones they had been living and opted to live with the natives.
So you can rightly say that there has been, for around 400 years at least, an overriding group that demands conformity or else; but there has also been a group that decided to heck with that, they would live life the way it felt right to them.
At one time, such independent thinkers simply moved to the frontier, where they weren't bothered by the conformists. Now, however, an independent thinker must find pockets where eccentricity and "doing your own thing" is accepted. There are such places out there, usually in remote rural areas, but sometimes found in liberal urban areas.

it seems that this problem exists everywhere and it's not in usa only. I used to face this probl. in highschool here in Egypt. I was bugged because i ws different and good and didn't cheat , etc. I got over it and now I have my group of friends and all is fine with me. You'll find that everywhere u go. Some will hate u bec. of ur religion, some for your color, some for ur beliefs and some for ur appearance and the list goes on. So, don't worry, 'cause u;ll never be able to please all. Be urslf and stop worrying about ppls opinions. That's what my dad always told me. You were born into this world because u have a message to give. find this messge and give it and don't waste time on crying over those who hurt u by looking u up and down. "Be a hero on the strife" like Longfellow said. Don't worry about other's 'cause "nobody's perfect". I found my message and my time hasn't come yet for me to give it and am still waiting. u too find it and find it soon.
Good Luck.

thats just the way things are and it really isnt just in america, it may be a bigger and more noticeably problem in america but really it is world wide. people just have a problem accepting different things for different reasons, some people are just extremely rascist, and some people are just mean and some people are predigous. One size does not fit all, it will never fit all. Its like when we grow up our parents tell us to never talk to strangers because there are alot of bad people in our world, well not everyone is bad, there are alot of good hearted people too. Its diversity everybody is different and some people just have problems accepting and relizing that. i dont think it is right at all but it has helped out society, stuff like this sets us up for when we are older, getting rejected on a job interview, getting turned down by the opposite sex, you get the point. its just the way things are.

sadly that is what we have become as a society...we judge, steroetype people ,assess people based on their faith, gender and sexual preference as well as their color and so much more. if we could just get all inhabitants on this planet to look at others as they would like others to see them..we might have a chance of survival..but logically...that`s not gonna` happen.i am an equalitist, we are all human and we all have red blood and we all have 1 god

Why do people post vague rants about being ridiuculed in America when it was probably one person on the bus in your town looking at you funny and you decided it was everyone, everywhere, in America.
