I got into an accident with my pick up truck and the front end is smashed in. ( I hit a concrete wall) It doesn't look like there is damage to the engine. If they fix the frame will it still have the same towing capacity? Is it safe??

I got into an accident with my pick up truck and the front end is smashed in. ( I hit a concrete wall) It doesn't look like there is damage to the engine. If they fix the frame will it still have the same towing capacity? Is it safe?? I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra and regularly tow a boat.

A good auto collision repair shop can measure and diagnois the extent of the frame damage to your truck. You know--thousands of truck frames are replaced each year if they are badly damaged. Not really a big deal -- just labor intensive. Many manufacturers sell replacement 'sections' for frames also. If repaired correctly you will have no problems with your vehicle. Which is why it is very important to decide on a good repairer.

Professionals make the assessment. They will not repair a frame if it cannot be done safely. There are dedicated frame shops that specialize in the work. If it is an older truck with metal fatigue or rust setting in, it will not be repaired.

The only real way to know is to fit it to a rig and check if it's still square - it may look ok but if it's been knocked out of square you'll get some very strange behaviour at speed... worth doing, honest.

A pickup with a ladder type frame is easiest to fix and make it right again.
Ask a good body shop manager.
