I've seen a lot. Watch:
Mai-HIME
-mixed with mecha, friendship, drama, action, and romance.
-This series is HIGHLY recommended.
The Twelve Kingdoms
-the story is superb and I think the character development in this one is greatly grown throughout the series.
Gundam Seed
-mecha, action, friendship, betrayal, and many other things
-I also HIGHLY recommend this series
-Go to http://www.anime-eden.com to download it!
Honey and Clover (season 1 & 2)
-friendship, romance, drama, and very good character understanding and development.
-Honey and Clover 2 is slightly better than the first season, but you'll have to watch the first season to understand the second.
Ouran High School Host Club
-This is a great series, with lots of comedy.
Noein - Mou Hitori no Kimi e
-a great series that gives you the impression of choosing our own lives, destiny, and future
Grenadier ~Hohoemi no Senshi!
-action, and good story
Kage Kara Mamoru!
-is about protecting someone with all your might
-lots of comedy, but the last episodes are the best in this series!
Noir
-this series is really good. It's about a woman and a girl who are assassins, using guns.
-This one is really good with destiny and making choices in life.
-kinds makes a person want to use a gun, from the cool ways they make it look like in this series
Tsubasa Chronicle
-action, romance, drama, and good story!
-I HIGHLY recommend this series!
Kino's Journey
-I think this series is good in the way it makes you think about life.
There are a lot of other ones I can recommend, but I'm tired.

How 'bout One Piece. I know, really odd and kind of bad in way of jokes and expressions, but the plot is really good. Or at least I think it is.
I have only read the manga of Black Cat, but the anime they're making of it shoud be good too...
Or, non-series, try a Miyazaki film? My Neighbor Totoro is my favorite!
