The first car on the list is the Bugatti Veyron. This super car has a price tag of $1,357,000, but is the fastest in the world. This car makes the 0-60 acceleration time of 2.5 seconds look like a typo, but with 1,001 horsepower, that time slip is very real. This car actually adjusts itself while moving when speeds reach over 137 miles per hour. The car drops down to 3.5 inches above the ground. A rear wing also moves into place to help keep the carbon-fiber body on the ground.
With 750 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds, the Saleen S7 comes in at a close second place. This car costs about $585,000. It is equipped with a rearview video camera because of the small rear window and a DVD player for DVDs. Although with the speed of this car, who wants to watch a movie?
The third car on the list is the Ford GT. The GT comes with 550 horsepower and can make the 0-60 trip in 3.3 seconds. The price on car number three is $149,995. This sports car is built with an aluminum frame and aluminum body panels, making it very light.
The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is ranked number four on the list with 640 horsepower and a price of $350,000. This Italian made sports car has a V12 engine behind the cockpit. The 0-62 acceleration time is 3.4 seconds for this one.
Porsche 911 Turbo cashes in at number five with a 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds. The 911 is available in different models, but the fastest model is equipped with the Tiptronic S five-speed automatic transmission. This model sells for $122,990.
Number six brings us to the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. With 620 horses, this car runs the 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 205 miles per hour.
Number seven is probably the most affordable true sports car you could own. With a price tag of only $65,690 the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will give you a fun ride. With a 505 horse power engine this car makes the 0-60 pass in 3.7 seconds.
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren ranks number eight on the list with it 671 horse power engine and 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds. This car has a top speed of 200 miles an hour, but will cost you $450,000.
Number nine on the list is the Dodge Viper SRT 10. This $86,995 car boasts a 500 horse power engine and a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds.
Lastly, number 10 on the list of super cars is the Ferrari F430 Spider with a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds. The $187,927 car comes with 490 horses under the hood.
i gave you ten! haha

Okay, for a girl I know a little and I'll take a jab at this one. '94 Dauer 962 LeMans 0-60 in 2.6 2000 Chevy Camero ZL1 Concept 0-60 in 2.7 2000 Dodge Hennessey Viper Venom 800TT 0-60 in 2.7 '99 Leblanc Caroline 0-60 in 2.7 I wanted to guess the Maserati, Lamborghini, Porsche and of corse the Shelby Cobra, but I'm pretty sure those are in the top. The top speed is a hard one for I know that the Koenigsegg CCR goes 271mph, but the Renault Espace F1 goes 310mph, just not as quick at the 0-60. Have fun with this qusetion, hope you find some informative people out there.

The current fastest car in the world is the Koenigsegg, follwed by the Bugatti Veyron, and I'm not sure about third but I know it's not the McClaren F-1, something beat it awhile back but I can't remember what.
Koenigsegg CCX vs. Bugatti Veyron:
0-62 mph - 2.687 seconds
Top speed: 257.3 mph, redline limited @ 6950 RPMs
808 hp twin supercharged DOHC Koenigsegg V-8, less power than the Bugatti, but faster still.

As a previous observer noted, this depends entirely on your definition of car. I will assume the following:
1. You mean top speed, not acceleration.
2. You want passenger cars, not racing vehicles.
3. You mean production cars, generally meaning a car produced in quantities of 10 or more.
4. You are talking about production cars, not aftermarket tuners. With enough tuning, any car can be made faster (Lingenfelter Corvettes and Hennessey Vipers are good examples).
5. You are asking about the fastest cars ever, not the fastest cars currently in production.
6. You want verifiable numbers, not raw claims.
Given all of these assumptions, here's the top three:
1. The Bugatti Veyron. 1001 stated horsepower from a quad-turbo W-16 engine w/ all-wheel drive, with true output somewhere around 1035. Price: $1.4 million, give or take. Top speed: electronically limited to 253 miles per hour. Tested independently by "Top Gear" and "Car & Driver," among others.
2. The Koenigsegg CCR/CCX. 806 horsepower in U.S. trim from a twin-supercharged V-8 engine w/ rear-wheel drive. Price: around $600,000. Top speed: tested at Nardo at 241 mph. The Nardo is a circular track, and the car's owners plan to retest if they can get access to a long straight like the Volkswagen track. The CCR version is the record-holder, but the CCX is the latest version, retuned with slight changes in aerodynamics.
3. The McLaren F1. Famous as the top-speed record holder since 1994. A 627-horsepower V-12 engine (from BMW) with rear-wheel drive. An extremely unusual 3-seater configuration. Top tested speed of 240 miles per hour. Cost approximately $1M when new. Out of production since mid-90s. Rev-limited to 231 miles per hour, tested speed had limiter removed.
Other notables:
Bugatti EB.110. Tested independently at 219 miles per hour in Italy (unofficial results). Quad-turbocharged V-12 engine, 600 horsepower in SS trim level, and AWD.
Jaguar XJ220. Held the top-speed record before the McLaren F1 arrived. Tested at 217 miles per hour. Twin-turbocharged V-6 engine with 550 horsepower and AWD.
Ferrari F40 (from '87-'92). First production car capable of 200 miles per hour. Twin-turbo V-8 engine with 478 horsepower and rear-wheel drive. Successor model (the Ferrari F50) could reach 205 miles per hour.
200mph+ supercars:
Ferrari F50 ('95-'97): 205 mph
Ford GT ('05-'06): (205 mph)
Ferrari Enzo Ferrari ('03): tested to 211 mph by Motor Trend.
Unverified top speed claims:
SSC Ultimate Aero TT: 273 mph [this car may not yet have been certified by DOT or EPA, and may not have entered production]
Saleen S7 TwinTurbo: 248 mph
BEngineering Edonis: 227 mph
Pagani Zonda F: 218 mph
Ferrari Enzo Ferrari: 217 mph
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640: 211 mph
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722: 209 mph
Porsche Carrera GT: 205 mph claimed, tested to 202 mph
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano: 205 mph
Maserati MC12: 205 mph
Ferrari 575M Maranello: 202 miles per hour
Vector W8: claimed 200+ mph
