I would get 512MB of RAM as a minimum, otherwise it would run DOG SLOW. If this computer cost only $100, and you spent another $100 for more RAM, and got a bigger hard drive for another $100... you would have a decent, but slow computer that might last 3 years. That's $300 for 3 years of use. WHO knows if the Windows XP with SP2 disk comes with, so you can reinstall it on a new and bigger drive? That would cost another $100.

Consider the $450 Compaq tower that you could buy from STAPLES. It comes with 512MB RAM, huge hard drive, but 3GHz speed and WIndows Vista Home Basic. Of course, the monitor is separate, but let's say $200. That's $650 for a computer that would last 7 years. That is under $100 per year of use. But you would have a faster and more modern computer.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

No. 800 Mhz too slow. Hard disk is too small. 128 mb is marginal for XP.

I have a 600MHz Pentium III 256Mb RAM, 20 Gb hard drive. I use as a doorstop. I might load Linux on it to learn Linux.

It was OK running Win 98 which is no longer supported, but when I put XP it was terrible. Just playing music on Windows Real Player, the music would stop and start because the processor was too slow. Also the computer would take forever to do anything.

Looking at ebay (completed listings)
$80 Optiplex: Pentium 3 800 Mhz processor 256 megs of memory
14 gigabyte hard drive Sound Nvida GForce TNT video
10/100 Network card 256 Meg Zip drive CDrom

I wouldn't touch that thing. Part of the problem, and the biggest part, is that you are going to be running XP with only a 128 MB RAM. Also 800 mhz, that is with that. My computer is old, heck I got it just a little before XP and it is fine for net and even it is running 1 gigHZ with 128 MB RAM. Heck the hard drive that came with it was bigger then that 10 GB, although that died and I had to get a new one, but that isn't important. Anyway I think you will be running to slow to be running XP. That means the thing will run like crap. I know that the computer can run XP or it wouldn't be on there. I know mine was listed as XP ready/compatiable. I also know that people said that what you are listing is too slow to properly run XP. If it is being given to you fine, otherwise probably getting ripped off. Well depending on the monitor, I hope that is what you are paying for.

A P3 is an OLD processor, not very fast, 128MB RAM will barely run WinXP, not alone a program or two. Hard drive 10GB? Don't bite on this one!! If you need old parts, go ahead!

Uhmm depends on what you're using it for and how much you're paying for it and how much you can afford.

I can almost say certainly not. I have one with better specs I plan to throw away. I definitely wouldn't buy one with those specs.

If all you want to do is check e-mail and go online it would be okay, but I wouldn't spend anymore than $50 on it.

I certainly wouldn't expect to play any games on it. You might be able to do word processing on it.

WOW

that must be really old......and i hope you're not paying much for it....

the RAM is too low these days for most applications....

hard drive capacity.......yeah.......thats definitely not enough....

and the processor speed....is a joke.
