It seems that there are more left handed players.

There are actually more right-handed players as the average righthander shoots left. The dominant hand on the top of the stick.
BTW, the exact number in the NHL is 64.1% with only 8% goalies.

More players shoot Left then right by a large margin, because if you're right handed you usually shoot Left. I don't know the exact percentage, I doubt anybody does.

There are more hockey players that shoot left than right. I think that about 65% shoot left and 35% shoot right.
