My sister and I really want to get a hamster since my last one died. This time (so that they will have company) we were going to get two. Is it okay to have the same age hamster (girls) in a cage together?

No! They will fight and kill each other. They are not meant to be kept together. I know they look a snuggley in the pet store, but read ANY hamster book. They are loaner creatures and they EAT THEIR YOUNG! I had one eat 11 babies in one night. So keep them apart. If you get a boy and a girl and want to mate them, make sure you put the girl in the boy's cage for a short period of time... not the other way around. The female will protect her cage ferociously! And don't breed them unless you want about a dozen hamsters! Although getting them young, seperating them from each other and giving them lots of contact when babies is the best way to turn a baby hamster into your bestest friend! If you get 2, out them in seperate cages! Good Luck!

As long as you know what breed you are getting.

Syrians/teddy bears: NO! NEVER EVER put two of theese or more together.

Dwarf: Yah, they should be okay together. If they arn't from the same litter, just monitor them for a bit because the might squabble at first.

Winter White: I think so, correct me if I'm wrong.

Roborofski: Yes, I think so. But just remember that robos are more of "look at" hamsters than hamsters to play with and cuddle with.

Also, I'd say get two males instead of two females. Females can get pretty violent with one another.

If you want 2 hamsters, I would get 2 males instead of 2 females. 2 females are much more likely to fight than 2 males are.

And be careful, even with with 2 males you still may get some fighting.

Yes it is usually O.K. Just make sure you clean out the cage very very good. My hamster died of wet tail and I cleaned out the cage with water and soap. So I got another hamster and put it in the cage and it died in less than a week. The workers at the Pet store told me I had to clean it out with clorox. Well, have fun with your new hamster buddies. :)

you really shoul only get two dwarf hamsters for the same cage because most other breeds are very terratorial and would be happyer by themselves.

no!! hamsters are solitary, and 2, or more will fight once they reached sexual maturity.
2 girls= fight
2 boys= fight
1 girl, 1 boy= LOTS of hamsters

if you want 2 of something then get gerbils. gerbils bond better with each other, and are friendlier.
